Te Puia

Attraction Details

Te Puia is the premier Maori Cultural centre in New Zealand – a place of gushing water , steaming vents, boiling mud pools and spectacular geysers.

Pohutu is the largest of several geysers in the valley.  It erupts on average once or twice each hour and can reach heights of 30 metres (100 feet).

Māori people have been living in the area for almost 700 years, and Te Puia offers a chance to find out more about Māori, their culture and land. It’s an opportunity to learn about their knowledge and their history, handed down from generation to generation
